My Miracle.
//-start of poem-\\
’Twas twenty years ago today
Twenty years arose a ray
My miracle emerged that day
Miracle on manger’s hay
’Twill twinkle kindly down on her
Twinkles twined ’tween twirls of fur
I give her frankincense and myrrh
Give her love for being her
’Twas ’cuz I love her don’t you know
Know I sorely missed her so
I wasn’t there to see her grow
Wasn’t there to seed her sow
’Twill twist t’ward treasures heretofore
Twists of fate twirl forward more
I’ll love her more through years of yore
Love her most for evermore
’Twas twenty years she rose to be
Twenty years henceforth you’ll see
You’ll see and you will all agree
Miracle’s marquee ’tis she

I love my daughter, Shannon, more than anything in the world. I wasn't there for most of her early childhood and teenage years. I wish I could have been there for her. She has inspired most of my best poetry. See all of those poems > here.
For the last 14 months, I have been writing a book of poetry using the poems on this site. The book is somewhat like this site in that it presents the poems from several perspectives, like selecting one of the sort views herein. However, more than half of the book is also a guidebook (or textbook) on structured poetry. It defines all the terms involved in poetry and provides detailed analysis of each of my poem's structures. One of the things I hoped to do with this site was to generate interest in real poetry and get paid to teach surfers of this site how to write structured poetry. All of those teaching techniques have been included in that book. Go to > Purchase, Products to buy that book.
When I was almost done with the book, my daughter had some difficulty with the meaning of life - the typical difficulties we all struggle with. It hurt me so much to hear of her struggles that I stopped and wrote " > Oh Shannon, So Perfect". Then I rewrote portions of the book to include that poem.
As I was wrapping up that rewrite of my "Real Poetry" book, my daughter turned 20 years old. If you have figured out anything about me, you know my daughter and my life's struggles about not having any parental rights due to being a male in the United States have inspired some of my most emotional poetry. She had visited me on father's day and I had a little time to start healing my wounds and hopefully start healing hers for not having had a father around. I was still riding an emotional roller coaster due to that visit with her when I was writing an email to her titled (Twenty Years Ago) to wish her a happy birthday. When I decided to call it ('Twas Twenty Years Ago Today) instead, "wham!", the idea for this poem just hit me. So this caused me to do yet another (final?) rewrite of the book.
I think this is my best poem. I usually have to wait to make a valid positional judgment for a new poem. But sometimes you just know when you've done something good.
I will write a personalized poem just for you. Go to > Purchase, Services (Services from Poet Roamoff) to see how to order one (and how to provide information I will use to write the poem).
