The Wrong Side of the Bed.
//-start of poem-\\
All fishes are flying
Hyenas are crying
Small shoes are made for clowns
Baked foods need some frying
Moist lotions cause drying
The world is upside down
No bunnies are hopping
No shoppers go shopping
Good jokes evoke a frown
Clean floors need more mopping
Gas pedals cause stopping
New leaves are shades of brown
Parked cars are in motion
Planes fly in the ocean
The day occurs at night
No kid shows emotion
No witches use potion
Your left is on your right
No waiter needs tipping
No grass needs some clipping
Loose clothes just fit too tight
Snow chains do no gripping
Slick ice can’t cause slipping
Dark things are way too bright
Sharp pain causes grinning
“Last place” means “you’re winning”
Long lines are ending soon
“Be good” means “start sinning”
“Go straight” means “start spinning”
The earth goes ’round the moon
Soiled hands need no wiping
No zebras have striping
Sharp knives carve like a spoon
Complainers stop griping
Old couples stop sniping
Sweet notes are out of tune
Caffeine causes sleeping
No crawlers are creeping
Clean rooms are filled with dust
No willows are weeping
No brooms can do sweeping
Glass jars no longer bust
“Lost cause” means “you’re hoping”
“Drug free” means “you’re doping”
“Free will” just means “you must”
“Give up” means “start coping”
“Have faith” means “start moping”
In God there is no trust
Hot summers cause snowing
Black holes are soon glowing
Curved things are in a line
“No wind” means “it’s blowing”
“Stay put” means “get going”
And eight comes after nine
“We’re broke” means “we’re thriving”
“In back” means “you’re driving”
“Seek help” just means “you’re fine”
“Can doers” aren’t striving
Close friends are conniving
Brave men just have no spine
Fresh air causes sneezing
Inhalers cause wheezing
Hot soup just makes you ill
Fresh roses aren’t pleasing
Harsh heat causes freezing
Bright sun can cause a chill
Your dog needs no walking
Deaf mutes end up talking
Believers have no will
Bare wires do no shocking
Huge dams do no blocking
All water flows uphill
Straight lines end up bending
Swear words aren’t offending
Good things just make you mad
No fences need mending
No patents are pending
Your mother is your dad
Sly teens do no sneaking
Trash piles do no reeking
Depression makes you glad
Old homes do no creaking
Old wheels do no squeaking
Elation makes you sad
No phrase needs repeating
No cook enjoys eating
No sandwich uses bread
No moment is fleeting
No crook enjoys cheating
No mobster ends up dead
It seems so confusing
And not too amusing
That I caused all this dread…
When I was done snoozing
I got up by choosing
The wrong side of the bed…

I like the fact that this poem has 6-syllable lines throughout, but the meter makes it feel otherwise. In my more recent works (since November 2005), I rarely reuse the same meter on another poem (meaning I have to invent a new meter for each - a daunting task). But I like this meter so much I have used it more than once. See my > biography (near the end, I list some of the poems that use this meter).
I have been criticized because some of my poems are very short (not this one!).
I will write a personalized poem just for you. Go to > Purchase, Services (Services from Poet Roamoff) to see how to order one (and how to provide information I will use to write the poem).
