Subtly Red.

//-start of poem-\\

Its gates are not closing.
It spans quite a spread.
It’s bold and imposing.
It’s subtly red.

Its jumpers are trying,
But most end up dead.
Their loved-ones are crying
As teardrops are shed.

Its purpose is crossing:
Two land masses wed.
Its causeway starts tossing
If earthquake’s ahead.

Its towers are striking.
“Let’s cross it” they said.
Some pass via biking.
Some walk it instead.

Some autos are driving,
On asphalt they tread.
Some seagulls are thriving
While seeking some bread.

Some cars are delaying
While toll booths are fed.
Some cables are swaying,
Thus causing some dread.

It’s sleek and most stunning.
Red spans form its ridge.
It sparkles when sunning:
The Golden Gate Bridge.

Author's Comments

In my more recent works (since November 2005), I rarely reuse the same meter on another poem (meaning I try to invent a new meter for each - a daunting task). But I "accidentally" used this meter more than once. See my  > biography (near the end, I list some of the poems that use this meter).

I have written other poems like this one about places or monuments. See my  > biography (near the end, I list some of the poems that are of this place or monument genre).

I will write a personalized poem just for you. Go to  > Purchase, Services (Services from Poet Roamoff) to see how to order one (and how to provide information I will use to write the poem).
