The Eiffel.

//-start of poem-\\

The Eiffel’s an eyeful:
  It towers alone.
  Its stature’s not trifle.
  It calls Paris home.
  All tourists must visit.
  It’s striking, you know.
  You really can’t miss it.
  It rose long ago…

The Eiffel is awful:
  It takes time to climb.
  But scaling’s unlawful.
  They call it a crime.
  You take elevator
  Or climb via stair.
  And sooner or later
  You’re way in the air…

Off Eiffel will I fall?
  No, only in dreams.
  A nightmare’s insightful
  (At least so it seems).
  But Eiffel’s no nightmare.
  It’s soothing and sleek.
  Its motif is quite rare.
  It is most unique.

Author's Comments

When I visited France in 2001, I kept calling the Eiffel Tower "awful", "an eyeful", or a place from which "I fall" to irritate my French-speaking brother. I have written other poems like this one about places or monuments. See my  > biography (near the end, I list some of the poems that are of this place or monument genre).

I will write a personalized poem just for you. Go to  > Purchase, Services (Services from Poet Roamoff) to see how to order one (and how to provide information I will use to write the poem).
